Alexis Cedres named head coach of Venezuela men's basketball team

The Venezuelan Basketball Federation (FVB) has appointed 38-year-old Alexis Cedres as the new head coach of the men's senior national basketball team. Cedres succeeds Francisco “Paco” Segura and will lead the team through the upcoming international competitive cycle.

Cedres transitions to the senior role following a successful tenure with Venezuela's youth categories. His recent achievements include winning the 2024 South American U15 Championship, securing a bronze medal at the 2025 FIBA AmeriCup U16, and qualifying the nation for the 2026 FIBA U17 World Cup.

Prior to his work with the national federation, Cedres coached Centauros de Portuguesa in the Professional Basketball Superleague from 2022 to 2024, where he was named Coach of the Year in 2022. His first assignment with the senior squad will be the FIBA Americup 2029 Pre-Qualifiers, scheduled for November 26–28 in Nueva Esparta.
