Alexis Kohler: Prosecutors request dismissal in conflict of interest case

The National Financial Prosecutor's Office (PNF) has requested a dismissal of charges against Alexis Kohler, a former close aide to President Emmanuel Macron. Kohler had been under investigation since 2022 for alleged illegal conflict of interest regarding his family ties to the shipping company MSC, which is managed by his mother's cousins, the Aponte family.

The investigation focused on Kohler's involvement in decisions related to MSC during his time as a high-ranking official, including his roles at the Ministry of Economy and as Secretary General of the Élysée. However, the scope of the case was significantly narrowed in July after the Paris Court of Appeal ruled that all facts occurring prior to 2014 were statute-barred.

Kohler, who currently serves as Deputy General Manager at Société Générale, now awaits a decision from the investigating judge. The judge will either follow the prosecutor's recommendation for dismissal or decide to send Kohler to trial.
