Alexis Sánchez joins CF Montréal on two-year MLS deal

Chilean star Alexis Sánchez has officially joined CF Montréal in Major League Soccer (MLS) on a two-year contract. The former Arsenal and Barcelona forward arrives after 18 years in European football, most recently playing for Sevilla.

Sánchez received a massive welcome in Montreal, including a formal meeting at City Hall with Mayor Soraya Martínez Ferrada, where he signed the city’s Golden Book. Large crowds of both local and Chilean fans gathered to catch a glimpse of the veteran striker.

CF Montréal head coach Philippe Eullaffroy expressed high expectations for the signing, noting that the team is in desperate need of offensive production to support a playoff push. The club has struggled recently, winning only one of its last nine matches. Eullaffroy plans to utilize Sánchez’s versatility, potentially deploying him on the left side of the attack or as a central playmaker.

While Sánchez is expected to be officially presented to fans during a match against D.C. United, his competitive debut is anticipated to take place around August 19 against the Columbus Crew. The club intends to manage his physical integration carefully given his recent playing history.
