Alexis Tsipras addresses maritime zones and election strategy

Alexis Tsipras, leader of SYRIZA, has addressed key national issues ahead of upcoming elections, focusing on maritime sovereignty and the political competition against the current government.

Regarding territorial waters, Tsipras stated that the expansion of maritime zones west and south of Crete must be addressed immediately. He criticized Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis for potentially using national issues as electoral tools, noting that while the New Democracy government previously criticized partial expansions, it later implemented a 12-mile expansion in the Ionian Sea.

On the political front, Tsipras framed the upcoming electoral dilemma as ‘either us or no one,’ expressing readiness to govern. He rejected the idea of a large coalition government, arguing such a move would devalue political life and benefit the far-right. He also addressed economic concerns, specifically energy costs and fuel prices, calling for immediate interventions to protect households from the impact of the ongoing global energy crisis.
