Alexis Tsipras announces Greek education reform plan

Alexis Tsipras has unveiled a comprehensive public education reform program as part of the Greek Leftist Alliance (ELAS) economic plan. The proposal focuses on reducing educational inequalities and strengthening the public school system.

Key measures include the abolition of the Panhellenic Examinations in favor of a system that evaluates a student's entire school career. To support students studying away from home, the plan proposes a monthly scholarship of 500 euros for ten months of the year for those attending regional universities.

For educators, the program pledges a 300-euro monthly salary increase and the permanent hiring of 30,000 new teachers, including kindergarten and primary school staff. The plan also seeks to increase pedagogical autonomy by repealing the Kerameus law and introducing a holistic evaluation system.

Additional social measures include providing free preschool education for all children, free school meals for primary school students, and the placement of psychologists in every school complex.
