Alexis Tsipras criticizes Greek climate and energy management
Alexis Tsipras, president of SYRIZA, has criticized the Greek government regarding the management of the climate crisis and energy infrastructure. He noted that burned forest areas in Greece have increased by 330% over the last six years, totaling more than 4.5 million acres. Tsipras contrasted this with Portugal, where burned areas decreased by 15% due to effective use of Recovery Fund resources for civil protection.
Tsipras also raised concerns regarding the privatized electricity distributor, DEDDIE. He alleged that while 187 million euros from the Recovery Fund were allocated for undergrounding the network to prevent fires, the project has not progressed. Instead, he claimed DEDDIE distributed 100 million euros in dividends and invested 168 million euros in real estate rather than critical infrastructure.
