Alexis Tsipras criticizes Greek government over fund legislation

Alexis Tsipras, president of the Greek Left Coalition (ELAS), addressed party members in Ilioupoli, stating that his party serves as an opposing pole to the Right rather than a supplementary force. He argued that there are two distinct Greeces: one characterized by hardship and another benefiting specific interests.

Tsipras highlighted a recent government retreat regarding a Ministry of Finance bill. He claimed that Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Minister Kostis Pierrakakis attempted to pass an amendment that would have allowed servicers and funds to proceed with auctions and evictions without a judicial decision.

He noted that the government withdrew Article 23 of the bill following public solidarity, citing a case in Thessaloniki involving an elderly woman with a disability who faced similar eviction risks. Tsipras framed this withdrawal as a victory for social solidarity.
