Alexis Tsipras unveils new governance plan at Thessaloniki International Fair

Alexis Tsipras, leader of the Greek Left Solidarity (ELAS), has announced a comprehensive political and economic plan to be presented at the Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF). The proposal focuses on a model of progressive governance aimed at achieving real convergence with Europe through three main pillars: establishing a new productive base via investment and technology, implementing fair taxation and wealth redistribution, and reducing the cost of living through functional public goods.

Tsipras has launched a sharp critique of the New Democracy government’s seven-year tenure, citing Eurostat and European Commission data to highlight economic disparities. He noted that Greece’s GDP per capita in purchasing power parity stands at 68% of the EU average, with 27.5% of the population at risk of poverty or social exclusion. Additionally, he pointed out that 36% of disposable income is spent on housing, compared to a 19% EU average.

The political strategy emphasizes moving beyond mere crisis management toward a model of productive reconstruction and social welfare. Tsipras stated that the party is preparing not just to fight an electoral battle, but to govern by offering an alternative to what he described as a corrupt and failed administration.
