Alexis Tsipras expands Greek Left Coalition through regional tours and MP recruitment
The Greek Left Coalition (ELAS), led by former Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, is entering a phase of organizational expansion and public outreach aimed at establishing itself as an alternative political force ahead of the 2027 elections.
Tsipras is intensifying his presence through nationwide tours, including visits to the Athens Chamber of Professionals to engage with small and medium-sized businesses, as well as regional visits to areas like Ilia. The movement aims to strengthen its grassroots presence, particularly in rural provinces where penetration has been a challenge.
Simultaneously, the party is working to bolster its parliamentary presence. Reports indicate a potential wave of defections from independent MPs, including Ilia MP Dionysis Kalamatianos, who may join the coalition. The party is also expected to restructure its communication department by bringing in more experienced political and parliamentary figures.
