Tsipras' new party set to challenge New Democracy in Greece

Former minister Efi Achtioglou said the new party founded by former prime minister Alexis Tsipras could become a powerful political pole opposite New Democracy and play a leading role in Greece's political scene.

She described the party as having majority‑type traits, government‑forming potential and a focus on the economy, social state and rule of law, positioning it as the left’s main force on major issues.

Achtioglou added that any cooperation between Tsipras’s party and the existing left coalition remains uncertain, stressing that her own departure from New Left was unrelated to Tsipras’s return and stemmed from strategic disagreements.
