Greek Left Alliance (ELAS) Unveils Full Shadow Cabinet Amid Poll Surge
The Greek Left Alliance (ELAS), led by former prime minister Alexis Tsipras, announced a comprehensive "shadow government" to contest the policies of the ruling New Democracy administration. The structure comprises 24 sector heads organised under six pillars: 1) Life with Dignity & Strong Social State, 2) Strong Democracy, 3) Fair Development, 4) Resilience in Crises, 5) Digital Sovereignty, and 6) Strong Greece – Foreign Affairs & Defence. Key coordinators are Kostas Gavroglo (Sector Coordinator) and Eugenia Fotoniata (Political Planning). Prominent sector leaders include Dionysios Temponeas (Labour) with Nektaria‑Eleftheria Aggelaki as deputy, Spiros Dritsas (Health) with Giorgos Boulmbas as deputy, Ioanna Laliotou (Education) with Panagiotis Kassianos, and many others covering finance, tourism, energy, immigration, digital policy and defence.
The move is intended to position ELAS as a ready‑made alternative government. A RealPolls survey released in the same week shows ELAS climbing to about 21‑22 % of voting intention, firmly establishing it as the second‑largest party after New Democracy and ahead of PASOK‑KINAL. The poll also notes a narrowing gap with the governing party, underscoring ELAS’s growing electoral relevance.
