Alexis Tsipras readies EL.AS candidate list for September election

Former prime minister Alexis Tsipras is accelerating the EL.AS campaign ahead of a planned September ballot. By the end of July the first names will be placed on the party’s ballot sheets, with the list being filled with members who signed the founding declaration and with resigning MPs awaiting later inclusion. Tsipras is touring the country, with stops scheduled in Peristeri and Mytilene, and is using an upgraded online platform to engage party members.

The party is positioning itself as the main opposition force, trailing New Democracy in recent Prorata polls (ND leading, EL.AS second with a 9.5‑point gap). Discussions continue over the inclusion of former SYRIZA MPs and the party’s stance on issues such as teachers’ salaries and the abolition of nationwide exams. The EL.AS campaign is being coordinated from the party headquarters in Amalia, with a focus on both local and national outreach.
