Alexis Tsipras prepares economic program launch in Thessaloniki

Alexis Tsipras, leader of the newly formed Greek Leftist Alliance (ELA), is finalizing the party’s economic program ahead of its official presentation in Thessaloniki on September 2. The program aims to establish the party as a viable alternative for governance, focusing on increasing disposable income, addressing the cost-of-living crisis, housing, and energy issues. Key economic contributors to the plan include Giorgos Chouliarakis, Dimitris Liakos, and Fragiskos Koutentakis.

To bolster support among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and self-employed professionals, Tsipras recently met with leaders from the General Confederation of Professionals, Craftsmen, and Merchants of Greece (GSVEE) and the Athens Chamber of Commerce. Discussions centered on tax reforms, such as the abolition of the professional fee, managing private debt, and improving access to financing.

The party’s presence at the Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF) will be twofold: a detailed presentation of the economic program on September 2, followed by a press conference at the Vellidio Conference Center on September 9. This strategic timing is viewed by political observers as an attempt to set the political agenda ahead of other major parties, including PASOK, during the fair.
