Alexis Tsipras to tour Crete regarding floods and infrastructure

Alexis Tsipras, president of the Greek Left Coalition (ELAS), is conducting a two-day tour of Crete on Monday and Tuesday. The visit focuses on addressing the aftermath of recent devastating floods, which have caused significant damage across the island.

Key objectives of the tour include assessing the impact of the weather events, reviewing the status of critical infrastructure projects such as the Northern Road Axis of Crete (BOAK), and evaluating the condition of local hospitals. Tsipras intends to pressure the government for immediate aid to affected residents and present a set of policy proposals for regional development.

The itinerary includes visits to Heraklion and Lasithi on Monday, followed by villages in Rethymno on Tuesday. A multi-member delegation led by Political Committee Secretary Miltos Chatzigiannakis will also conduct meetings in Chania to engage with local communities and officials.
