Alexis Vega reveals failed transfer to Espanyol
Mexican footballer Alexis Vega has revealed that a transfer to Espanyol de Barcelona nearly materialized during his time with Chivas. Vega stated that a closed agreement was in place and he was scheduled to present himself to the Spanish club on a Wednesday.
The move was derailed after Vega chose to play a match against Atlético de San Luis instead of traveling to Barcelona for medical examinations. During that match, he suffered a knee injury. Although Vega held a video consultation with Espanyol doctors who suggested the injury was not severe enough to prevent his arrival, the club's owner ultimately decided not to proceed with the signing.
Currently playing for Toluca with a contract running until 2029, Vega expressed that he does not hold any resentment toward the missed opportunity. While he remains focused on becoming a local legend at Toluca, he noted that he has not closed the door to future opportunities in Europe or the United States. Additionally, Vega praised Julián Quiñones regarding his nomination for the 2026 Ballon d'Or.
