Alfafar housing project receives environmental approval
The Font Baixa Integrated Action Plan (PAI) in Alfafar has received environmental approval to proceed with the construction of 300 social housing units. The project, situated on 140,000 square meters, incorporates specific adaptation and protection measures against flood risks following the devastating floods of October 2024.
Designed as an ‘eco-neighborhood’ aligned with the 2030 Agenda, the development will include drainage systems, a potential storm tank, and a permeable lake to manage heavy rainfall. To ensure safety, residential buildings and parking areas will be constructed above the water levels recorded during the recent flood event. While the project aims to provide sustainable housing and green spaces, it faces opposition from environmental groups and political factions concerned about the land's natural drainage capacity.
