Alfeld begins renovations on Herrendienstweg hiking trail

The city of Alfeld (Leine), in collaboration with the Niedersächsische Landesforsten, will begin comprehensive renovations on a section of the Herrendienstweg hiking trail starting August 17, 2026. The work focuses on a one-kilometer stretch between Eimsen and the Adamis-Hütte that was damaged by rainwater runoff.

Construction efforts will involve restoring side areas and drainage ditches using heavy machinery, followed by reshaping the path with an ‘hourglass profile’ to ensure controlled water runoff. Once the new material is applied, the path will remain closed to all vehicle traffic to allow the surface to settle and compact through cycles of wet and dry weather. Officials expect the vehicle closure to last at least two months following the initial two-week construction period.
