Alfonso Fernández Mañueco pledges 'national priority' policy in Castilla y León investiture

Alfonso Fernández Mañueco, the People’s Party (PP) candidate for president of the Junta of Castilla y León, addressed the regional parliament in his investiture speech, promising a four‑year agenda of inclusive progress, equality and solidarity. He said his programme, built on a newly signed coalition agreement with Vox, would apply the principle of “national priority” to social‑housing aid, restricting benefits to people with a legal, effective and stable link to the region, while guaranteeing that essential public services such as health, education, social care and transport would not be curtailed.

Mañueco stressed that the “national priority” framework would not roll back any consolidated rights and that similar criteria have been used across Spain for years. He highlighted legal, orderly immigration as a driver of population growth, noting that around 47,000 new residents have arrived since 2022, helping to offset a demographic decline. He also expressed full support for the Pope’s call for solidarity with migrants and peaceful conflict resolution.
