Alfonso Álvarez Gutiérrez linked to process for dating app fraud
Alfonso Álvarez Gutiérrez, known as the ‘Bumble Scammer,’ has been linked to a legal process for fraud in the State of Mexico. According to reports, Álvarez Gutiérrez used dating applications such as Bumble and Tinder to target professional women by posing as a foreigner with Italian roots and an expertise in art valuation.
After establishing romantic relationships, the suspect allegedly requested money to resolve purported financial emergencies or personal crises. Victims reported that some resorted to taking out loans, using credit cards, or pawning belongings to provide him with funds. When victims attempted to recover their money, he would reportedly cease communication or fabricate stories involving kidnappings, illnesses, or international travel.
Estimates from the affected women suggest the total amount defrauded is approximately one million pesos. While approximately 15 women are believed to be potential victims, seven have formally appeared at the Barrientos Prison in the State of Mexico to pursue their cases.
