Trapani and Vico Equense vie for Italian Sea Capital 2027 title

Several Italian municipalities and organizations are advancing initiatives to promote maritime culture and economic development. The city of Trapani has officially submitted its candidacy for the title of ‘Capitale italiana del mare 2027’, supported by the Port Authority of the Western Sicilian Sea, the Libero Consorzio Comunale di Trapani, and the Trapani Chamber of Commerce. This project aims to focus on logistics, the blue economy, and new energy sectors.

Vico Equense has also entered the race for the 2027 Italian Sea Capital title. The municipality’s proposal emphasizes environmental protection, sustainable tourism, and technological innovation, with the potential for a one-million-euro grant to support local maritime culture and biodiversity.

Separately, the Lega Navale Italiana reports a significant increase in youth engagement, with members under 25 reaching 13,155 in August 2026. The organization is working to integrate maritime education into schools, using nautical sports as a tool for social inclusion and environmental awareness.
