Alfonso Rueda promotes Bico de Xeado model for Galician rural development

Alfonso Rueda, President of the Xunta de Galicia, has highlighted the Bico de Xeado model as a blueprint for a competitive and solid rural future in Galicia. During a visit to the Granxa A Esperanza in San Sadurniño, Rueda emphasized the importance of modern, efficient farms that respect the territory and transform raw materials to create added value.

Bico de Xeado, driven by the Cooperativa Agraria Provincial da Coruña, currently includes 30 member cooperatives and 30 ice cream parlors. The initiative is cited as a prime example of the ‘Galicia Calidade’ standard, focusing on animal welfare and environmental respect while producing high-quality dairy products distributed throughout Spain.

In addition to supporting such initiatives, the Galician government is processing a new Law of Cooperatives of Galicia. This legislation aims to update a legal framework that is nearly three decades old, intending to provide greater legal certainty, facilitate rural entrepreneurship, and streamline the management of the more than 2,000 active cooperatives currently operating in the region.
