Alfonso Rueda conducts regional visits and announces university oversight reforms
Galician President Alfonso Rueda has conducted several official activities following the summer break. During a visit to the Valdeorras region, Rueda visited the Vinos Barco cooperative to observe the grape harvest. He described the viticulture sector as ‘strategic’ for Galicia, expressing confidence in an abundant and high-quality harvest this year.
Regarding regional administration, the Xunta de Galicia announced plans to strengthen economic oversight of the region's three universities. This reform will increase the powers of Social Councils, requiring external audits of annual accounts to ensure financial stability and prevent mismanagement.
In political developments, Rueda endorsed Víctor Baladrón as the new PP candidate for the mayoralty of Verín following a total renewal of the local municipal council. Additionally, Rueda addressed a dispute with the Madrid regional government regarding public transport discounts. He emphasized the need for ‘reciprocity,’ noting that Galician residents benefit from similar advantages in Madrid regardless of their registration status.
Finally, Rueda expressed support for Alberto Núñez Feijóo’s criticisms regarding the Community of Madrid’s purchase of a property in Chamberí, stating that those involved must provide explanations.
