Alfredo Zegarra proposes health system reforms in Arequipa
Alfredo Zegarra Tejada, candidate for the Regional Government of Arequipa representing the Fuerza Arequipeña movement, has proposed a comprehensive reengineering of the local health system. Zegarra warned that the current sector is “on the verge of entering intensive care” due to deficiencies in hospital infrastructure and primary care facilities.
His platform includes increasing investment in hospital infrastructure and decentralizing medical services to prevent patients from needing to travel to Lima for complex treatments. Key proposals involve equipping primary care centers with laboratories, X-ray machines, and ultrasound equipment to facilitate timely diagnoses.
Additionally, Zegarra aims to address unfinished medical projects, specifically mentioning the need to operationalize the Maritza Campos hospital next year and complete the hospital in Camaná. He emphasized that infrastructure must be accompanied by sufficient medical personnel and organized services to be effective.
