Algarve communities celebrate historical charter anniversaries
Several communities in the Algarve region are marking significant historical anniversaries through local festivities.
In Porches, located in the municipality of Lagoa, celebrations are underway to commemorate 740 years since the granting of its Foral (charter) by King Dinis in 1286. The commemorative program includes opening ceremonies at the D. Dinis Cultural Center and musical performances by Adiafa and João Miranda. The event aims to honor the generations that have shaped the community's identity, traditions, and pottery heritage.
Meanwhile, the village of Ferragudo is celebrating 506 years since its formal creation. The village's status was established following a Charter of Privileges granted by Queen Leonor on August 21, 1520, which was subsequently confirmed by King Manuel I and King João III. A three-day festival featuring music and community entertainment is scheduled from August 20 to 22 to mark the occasion.
