Algarve, Costa del Sol, and Tenerife named affordable winter sun destinations

According to the Post Office Travel Money ‘Winter Sun Holiday Costs Barometer’, several European destinations offer affordable options for winter sun seekers. The study compared 24 global destinations by calculating the cost of a fixed basket of eight typical holiday items, including coffee, local beer, wine, water, sunscreen, insect repellent, and a three-course dinner for two.

In Europe, the Algarve in Portugal ranked sixth, with a basket cost of approximately 96 euros. The Costa del Sol in Spain followed in seventh place at roughly 97 euros, noted for its mild climate and accessibility to locations like Málaga, Marbella, and Fuengirola. Tenerife in the Canary Islands rounded out the European top three in eighth place, with a cost of about 101 euros.
