Algarve political parties debate regional funding and government policy

Political parties in the Algarve region are debating government investment and regional support. The PSD Algarve issued a statement denying accusations from the Socialist Party (PS) that the region was excluded from funding for Collaborative Laboratories and Technology and Innovation Centers. The PSD clarified that while the 45 million euro COMPETE 2030 program covers the North, Center, and Alentejo regions, the Algarve has its own dedicated funding through the ALGARVE 2030 Regional Program, with a specific notice scheduled for early October. They also noted that 2.8 million euros have been approved for four local CoLABs.

Separately, the Portuguese Communist Party (PCP) criticized government policies regarding housing, healthcare, and public investment in the Algarve. During a political event in Olhão, party leaders argued that recent government measures fail to address the housing crisis and accused the administration of allowing the degradation of the National Health Service (SNS) while favoring private groups. The PCP also highlighted economic challenges faced by local artisans and small businesses, including rising material costs and the impact of the cost of living.
