Algarve, Portugal Named Top Value Family Holiday Spot for 2026

The Algarve region of Portugal has been ranked the best‑value destination for a family holiday in the 2026 Post Office Travel Money Family Holiday Report, produced with TUI. The study compared the price of a basket of ten typical holiday items across 22 European locations. A family of four would spend about £140 in the Algarve, making it the cheapest option and moving it from third to first place. Bulgaria’s Sunny Beach and Lanzarote’s Costa Teguise followed in second and third place, while Spain provided six of the top‑10 locations.

In a separate analysis by Private Portugal Tours, Portugal secured two of the four highest‑rated European beaches for sunset watching. Praia da Falésia in the Algarve placed third and Ursa Beach near Cabo da Roca ranked fourth, based on the proportion of TripAdvisor reviews that highlighted sunsets. Overall, Portugal listed four beaches in the European top 20 and five in the top 32, second only to Greece.
