Algarve tourism highlights Lagos coast and Alte village
The Algarve region in southern Portugal offers diverse attractions ranging from coastal landmarks to inland villages.
Lagos is a prominent coastal destination known for its historical old town, sandy beaches like Meia Praia and Praia Dona Ana, and the dramatic rock formations of Ponta da Piedade. Visitors to the area can engage in activities such as boat tours through sea caves, kayaking along cliffs, and exploring historical sites like the Forte da Ponta da Bandeira.
Inland, the village of Alte in the Loulé municipality provides a different experience. Characterized by white-washed houses and traditional architecture, the village features the 16th-century Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Assunção and the Chapel of São Luís. The area is also known for its natural features, including a 24-meter waterfall and springs such as Fonte Pequena and Fonte Grande, as well as its connection to the poet Cândido Guerreiro.
