Algarve tourism showcased in New York ahead of the 2026 World Cup
On 15 July, the Algarve held a “Day of the Algarve” event at Casa de Portugal inside the Time Out Market in Brooklyn, New York. Organized under the Road to World Cup project by the Portuguese Football Federation with support from Turismo de Portugal, the day aimed to promote the region’s tourism to American journalists, tour operators and visitors.
The programme highlighted the Algarve’s gastronomy, culture and sport calendar, featuring a live cooking demonstration by Michelin‑starred chef João Oliveira, a tasting of regional flavours, and a performance by Algarve‑born musician Dino D’Santiago. Presentations also showcased international events hosted in the region such as the PGA Portugal Invitational, Formula 1 and MotoGP, positioning the Algarve as a year‑round destination beyond its traditional beach image.
The event coincided with a live broadcast of a 2026 FIFA World Cup semi‑final, drawing extra footfall. Organisers linked the promotion to the new direct Faro‑Newark flight launched in May 2025, which strengthens the trans‑Atlantic link and supports the broader goal of expanding the US market for Algarve tourism.
