Algeciras: Adelante Andalucía demands restoration of Parque del Torrejón

The political formation Adelante Andalucía has called on the Algeciras City Council to take urgent action regarding the deterioration of Parque del Torrejón in the Rinconcillo neighborhood. The group highlighted issues including lack of maintenance, excessive vegetation, and accumulated dirt.

A primary concern is the state of the park's bird observatory, which overlooks the Marismas del río Palmones. This area is recognized globally as a significant site for migratory bird watching and is featured in specialized ornithological tourism references. The group argues that the current neglect harms both local residents and Algeciras's reputation as a nature tourism destination.

Proposed solutions include comprehensive cleaning, the restoration of the observatory, improved environmental signage, and the development of an interpretive trail connected to the Palmones marshes. Adelante Andalucía emphasized that the city needs a stable project for maintenance and conservation rather than just occasional cleaning.
