Algeciras and Posorja climb in 2025 global container port efficiency rankings
The Algeciras port in Spain improved its standing in the 2025 Container Port Performance Index, moving up seven places to rank 12th worldwide with a score of 122 points. The boost brings it close to rival Tanger Med in Morocco and confirms its lead among Mediterranean ports and the European Union.
Ecuador's Posorja port was identified as the most efficient terminal in Latin America and the Caribbean, achieving a score of 104 points—the region's highest. The port recorded a 70‑point gain since 2020, handled 946,742 TEU in 2025 (about 30% of the country's container traffic), and operates under a 50‑year public‑private partnership with DP World. The CPPI report also noted other top regional performers, including Chile’s Puerto Coronel, Colombia’s Cartagena and Peru’s Callao, while overall global efficiency metrics declined due to ongoing supply‑chain disruptions.
