Spain manages major wildfires in Huelva and Algeciras

Spain is managing multiple significant wildfire incidents. In Huelva, the Niebla fire has been extinguished after 15 days, having burned approximately 33,000 hectares across eleven municipalities. Officials have described it as the worst environmental disaster in the history of Andalusia, surpassing the scale of the 2004 Minas de Riotinto fire. The blaze heavily impacted the La Pata del Caballo natural area.

In Algeciras, a separate fire in the Sotorebolo residential area was successfully extinguished after threatening homes due to strong winds. While no injuries or property damage were reported, local residents have raised concerns regarding the maintenance of nearby private plots, citing accumulated waste and dry vegetation as high-risk factors for future outbreaks.
