Algeciras City Council announces Plaza Neda renovation
The Algeciras City Council has launched a tender for the rehabilitation of Plaza Neda, a pedestrian space near Calle Sevilla. The project, budgeted at 96,250 euros, aims to repair approximately 300 square meters of damaged cobblestone pavement, addressing issues such as cracks, sinkholes, and surface deformations. The works are expected to be completed within two months of the contract signing.
The renovation coincides with the area's growing importance as a gastronomic and leisure hub, driven by private sector activity and new business openings. However, the project has drawn criticism from the PSOE, which accuses the local government of a lack of transparency. The opposition claims the administration failed to disclose that the funding for the repairs is sourced from funds allocated following recent storm events, rather than being a standard municipal investment.
