Algeciras Highlights Sustainable Education Initiatives with Eco‑School Awards and Municipal Forum

Algeciras hosted a ceremony to present the International Green Flag distinction to two local eco‑schools. IES Levante received a renewed flag, while IES Bahía de Algeciras was recognized for the first time. Municipal officials, including the deputy mayor for Education and the Andalusian Education Minister, attended the event and praised the schools for promoting environmental responsibility among students.

The city also held the 2026 Municipal Education Forum under the theme “Territory and Education: challenges and collective responses.” The forum brought together educators, administrators and community members to discuss rural and urban schooling challenges, showcase six innovative educational projects and exchange best practices aimed at improving teaching quality and fostering social transformation in Algeciras.
