Algeciras Mayor demands A-7 highway expansion to resolve traffic
The Mayor of Algeciras, José Ignacio Landaluce, has called on the Spanish Government to urgently address persistent traffic congestion on the A-7 highway. Significant vehicle queues have been reported at the city's northern access points, particularly during the summer season and the 'Operation Paso del Estrecho'.
Landaluce argues that the current infrastructure is insufficient for the volume of traffic in the region. He is specifically demanding the expansion of the A-7 to three lanes per direction between San Roque and Algeciras. Additionally, he has requested the rapid remodeling of the North Access tunnel to improve mobility for the city, its port, and the broader Campo de Gibraltar area.
The Mayor emphasized that these delays are not isolated incidents but a consequence of inadequate infrastructure that impacts economic activity, freight transport, and the daily commutes of thousands of citizens.
