Algeciras Police Chief Francisco Javier López Matesanz departs for new assignment
Francisco Javier López Matesanz is stepping down as the Chief Commissioner of the National Police in Algeciras to begin a new professional assignment. His departure follows more than six years leading the Algeciras station, having previously served in La Línea de la Concepción since early 2019. This tenure marks over seven years of service focused on security within the Campo de Gibraltar region.
Algeciras Mayor José Ignacio Landaluce held a formal farewell meeting to recognize López Matesanz’s contributions. The Mayor praised the commissioner for his “delivery and professionalism,” specifically noting his loyalty and willingness to work closely with the City Council to address local issues. Landaluce also highlighted the effective coordination between the National Police and the Local Police in maintaining public order and citizen welfare during his leadership.
