Algeciras Port sees record summer surge in OPE ferry traffic

During the first major peak of the summer Operación Paso del Estrecho (OPE), the Port of Algeciras handled almost 40,000 passengers and 10,000 vehicles in a 48‑hour period, while nearby Tarifa recorded 13,717 travellers and 2,590 cars. The combined activity of Algeciras and Tarifa over the first month of the OPE accounted for 473,470 passengers and 116,951 vehicles, more than 73 % of Spain’s total operation, with the Algeciras‑Tangier Med link carrying the highest number of travellers. Images from the day show crowds crowding the terminal as the ports ramped up logistics to maintain smooth boarding and traffic flow.
