Algeciras to receive new provincial court section and three judicial posts
The Spanish government approved, via Real Decreto 559/2026, the creation of a ninth section of the Audiencia Provincial of Cádiz with its seat in Algeciras. The new section will comprise four magistrates, two of which are brand‑new positions, while the other two will be filled by judges transferred from the existing seventh section. In addition, three new magistrate seats were added to the local Tribunal de Instancia covering civil and family jurisdictions.
The dean of the Algeciras judges, Javier García Rámila, said the ninth section is scheduled to start on 31 December 2026 and the three new instance posts should be operational by June 2027. Ongoing construction of the "Ciudad de la Justicia" in Algeciras is expected to be completed only around mid‑2029, a delay that local politicians highlighted. PSOE deputy Juan Carlos Ruiz Boix welcomed the increase in judicial resources but criticised the Andalusian government for the slow progress of court infrastructure projects.
