Algeciras council reopens weekly market and approves demolition of historic kiosk

The Algeciras municipal government announced that the traditional weekly market will resume on Tuesday, 14 July, in Parque Feria Antonio Quintero Romero. Market stalls will be re‑installed after the venue’s cleanup, disinsection and rodent‑control work following the recent Feria Real. Officials Sabina Quiles, Juana Cid and Vicente Palomares confirmed that only authorized vendors will operate in the fairground.

In a separate decision, the council plans to dismantle the modernist wooden kiosk that has occupied the main patio of the City Hall since 1997. Built by a French carpenter, the structure was intended to host a one‑stop citizen service desk, but the service has been digitalised and the kiosk has remained unused for years. The municipality intends to remove the kiosk permanently, citing its incongruity with the historic building and the lack of functional purpose.
