Algeciras Wildfire Near A-7 Road Prompts Large Emergency Response

A wildfire broke out near the A‑7 highway in Algeciras, visible from Gibraltar. Strong westerly winds hampered firefighting efforts. Emergency services deployed included municipal firefighters, the Infoca rescue unit, local and national police, the Civil Protection agency and the Guardia Civil. The blaze affected vegetation on Avenida Agua Marina and the Los Alamillos urbanisation; the access roundabout to the fire station was closed to aid operations. Authorities have not confirmed the cause, though some residents suspect fireworks. No evacuations have been ordered so far, and crews continue to work to contain the fire.

The incident underscores the challenges of managing wildfires in the densely populated coastal area of southern Spain, where cross‑border visibility from Gibraltar raises public concern.
