Algeciras‑Ceuta ferries operate normally despite Ceuta migration crisis

Three ferry operators that link Algeciras with the Spanish enclave of Ceuta reported "total normality" in their services, despite the ongoing migration crisis affecting Ceuta. The same normal operation applies to the four lines serving Tangier Med and the routes from Tarifa to Tangier Ville.

The Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras has kept a reinforced deployment at Algeciras and Tarifa, which handle about 71 % of the traffic for the Operation Paso del Estrecho (OPE). The authority expects to move up to 35 000 vehicles between 31 July and 3 August, a period marked in red on the OPE calendar. The OPE, which began on 15 June and will run until 15 September, has already carried 1 168 480 travelers through Spanish ports. Compared with the previous year, vessel rotations, passenger numbers and vehicle counts have shown slight declines of 6.8 %, 4.1 % and 3.4 % respectively, though the Interior Ministry projects a new record for 2026.
