Algeria and EU launch €1 million organic farming project
Algeria has launched a 24-month institutional twinning project with the European Union to modernize its organic agriculture sector. Funded with €1 million ($1.13 million), the initiative aims to establish a robust regulatory and certification framework to help Algerian producers meet international standards and access demanding global markets.
The project is being led by Italy’s Ministry of Agriculture (MASAF), with participation from the French Ministry of Agriculture. It focuses on two primary objectives: first, developing national organic farming regulations, inspection procedures, and certification systems; and second, implementing an Agricultural Quality Label (LAQ). The latter will involve five pilot sectors to define product characteristics and quality criteria through collaboration with producers and technical organizations.
