Algeria and Germany agree to boost energy and industrial partnership
Algeria and Germany have agreed to take concrete steps to strengthen their bilateral partnership, focusing on energy, industry, transport, and pharmaceuticals. The agreement follows a recent official visit by Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to Berlin.
During high-level meetings in Algiers, officials discussed expanding cooperation in the hydrocarbon sector, including oil and gas industries, engineering, and infrastructure. Key topics included the marketing of natural gas and liquefied natural gas (LNG), as well as the development of green hydrogen and green ammonia projects through Sonatrach. The discussions also touched upon low-carbon technologies and the management of methane emissions.
The energy partnership comes at a critical time for Germany, which is seeking to secure its gas supply. Recent reports noted that direct liquefied gas deliveries from Algeria to Wilhelmshaven occurred in early July. As of late August, German gas reserves were reported at 53% capacity, significantly lower than the 2017-2021 average.
