Algeria and Italy deepen security cooperation on migration, Sayoud says

Algerian Interior Minister Saïd Sayoud met his Italian counterpart Matteo Piantedosi in Rome to deepen bilateral security cooperation. The talks focused on curbing irregular migration across the Mediterranean, dismantling human‑trafficking networks and enhancing coordination between the two interior ministries. Italy praised Algeria’s “balanced and comprehensive” approach to migration, noting recent successes in breaking criminal routes.

The visit, part of a broader rapprochement between Algiers and Rome, also covered cooperation in civil protection, local governance and transport. Both sides said they will tighten operational links to reduce illegal flows and target transnational crime more effectively.
