Oman and Iran hold talks on Strait of Hormuz security
Oman’s Foreign Minister, Badr Al-Busaidi, is scheduled to visit Tehran on Tuesday to engage in high-level discussions with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. The primary focus of these diplomatic consultations is to address regional security and establish a framework for safe maritime navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. These efforts follow increased tensions and restrictions on transit through the waterway since February.
In a separate economic development, Algeria and Oman have officially moved to the operational phase of an expansion project for the AOA fertilizer plant in Arzew. The joint venture, which is 51% owned by Sonatrach and 49% by Suhail Bahwan Holding, aims to increase the production of ammonia and urea by 50%. This agreement was finalized during a meeting between Algerian Hydrocarbons Minister Mohamed Arkab and Suhail Bahwan Holding Chairman Sheikh Saad Suhail Bahwan.
Additionally, Algeria is strengthening its international economic ties through participation in the AGRA 2026 international agriculture salon in Slovenia, seeking to expand non-hydrocarbon exports and foster partnerships in agriculture and technology. The country is also positioned as a key player in the EU’s T-MED initiative, which aims to transform the southern Mediterranean into a green electricity hub.
