Algeria and Senegal announce major road and bridge infrastructure projects

Algeria and Senegal have announced new initiatives to improve their national road and bridge infrastructures.

In Algeria, Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure Abdelkader Djellaoui has ordered the acceleration of maintenance work on critical road and highway sections. The directive focuses on addressing “black spots” across the country, specifically targeting the East-West Highway in wilayas including Bouira, Bordj Bou Arréridj, Aïn Defla, Chlef, Blida, Constantine, Guelma, and Annaba. The minister emphasized prioritizing heavily degraded routes and ensuring that technical expertise and material resources are mobilized to improve user safety and road conditions.

In Senegal, the government has committed to major infrastructure projects in Ziguinchor to improve regional connectivity. Prime Minister Ahmadou Al Aminou Lô has instructed the Ministries of Finance and Infrastructure to allocate necessary budget credits for the renovation of the Émile Badiane Bridge. Additionally, the government plans to begin construction on a second bridge in the city to alleviate traffic congestion and provide a vital alternative to the existing structure, aiming to better integrate the Casamance region.
