Algeria cancels secondary school curriculum reforms

The Algerian Ministry of National Education has canceled a planned reform of secondary and technical education curricula. The reversal, announced by Minister Mohamed Seghir Sadaoui, nullifies a decision made on July 28 that had sparked significant controversy regarding changes to subject hours and coefficients.

The disputed reforms included adjustments to the volume of philosophy instruction in high schools and the replacement of French with English in the third year of primary school. The cancellation follows directives from President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, who emphasized the need to keep schools free from ideology and mandated that all proposed educational changes must be submitted exclusively to the Council of Ministers.
