Algeria Civil Protection reports high road and drowning casualties

The Algerian Civil Protection has reported significant casualties resulting from road accidents and drownings during recent periods of high summer mobility.

In a weekly report, authorities recorded 1,542 road accidents, leading to 34 deaths and 2,013 injuries. The Naâma province saw the highest impact with seven deaths and 40 injuries across nine accidents. Additionally, emergency services responded to 2,411 fires and handled over 15,000 medical interventions.

Regarding water safety, beach surveillance units conducted 8,729 interventions, saving 6,457 people from drowning. However, 16 deaths were recorded due to drowning, including 11 at beaches and five in water reservoirs. Recent 24-hour data also highlights ongoing risks, including a fatal collision on the East-West Highway in Beni Mered involving a car and a worker transport minibus.
