Algeria coach Brahim Hemdani to favor overseas players in first squad selection
Algeria's new national team coach, Brahim Hemdani, is finalizing his first squad selection for upcoming matches against Zambia and Burundi. Reports indicate a heavy preference for players based abroad, likely due to the late start of the Algerian domestic league. Only two players from the local Ligue 1 Mobilis are expected to be included: goalkeeper Abdelatif Ramdane of MC Alger and defender Achraf Abada of USM Alger.
The squad selection follows significant changes in the national team, including the international retirements of Riyad Mahrez and Aïssa Mandi, as well as suspensions for Luca Zidane and Rafik Belghali. Potential returns to the squad include Kévin Guitoun, Ahmed Touba, and Sohaib Naïr.
In related developments, Le Mans FC midfielder Adil Bourabaa is also expected to receive a call-up to the Algerian senior team. The 21-year-old, who has been a standout performer in France's Ligue 1, has already established himself as an Algerian youth international.
