Algerian Football Federation Retains Coach Vladimir Petkovic through 2028, Overhauls Staff

The Algerian Football Federation (FAF) has decided to keep head coach Vladimir Petkovic in charge of the national team until the end of his contract in July 2028. A technical commission praised his achievements, noting that under his tenure Algeria reached the AFCON quarter‑finals, qualified for the 2026 World Cup and performed well in friendlies against Guatemala, Uruguay and the Netherlands.

Following the commission’s recommendations, the federation dismissed assistant coach Davide Morandi for breaching his contract and did not renew the contract of Nabil Neghiz. Goalkeeper coaches Guido Nanni and Nasreddine Berrama and fitness coach Paolo Rongoni remain in place, while former captain Antar Yahia has been appointed first assistant. A second assistant position is still under consideration.

After Algeria’s round‑of‑16 exit at the 2026 World Cup, Petkovic submitted a report blaming the players, especially the defence, for the disappointment, but he did not tender his resignation and is expected to continue leading the team.
